Weekends during winter are all about snuggling in a warm blanket and binge-watching your favorite show. While talking about some me-time, why not grab some sweet delicacies to gobble on? The first thing that comes to mind when I think about winter is gajar ka halwa. The seasoned fragrance of ghee coming from the kitchen when my mother used to cook her iconic gajar ka halwa recipe is still fresh in my mind. Why not relive those memories by cooking some piping hot halwa at home? Here are two simple halwa recipes to try out this winter.
- Moong Dal Halwa
Moong Dal Halwa carries an unforgettable crisp and warm flavor and is served on special occasions. Let’s make this healthy moong dal halwa recipe at home.
Ingredients
- Nestlé MILKMAID: 1 tin
- Kishmish (Raisins): 3 tbsp
- Nestlé Everyday Shahi Ghee: 1 cup
- Nestlé a+ Nourish Milk: 3 cups
- Pistachio, Chopped: 3 tbsp
- Badam (Almonds) cut into slivers: 3 tbsp
- Yellow Moong Dal (Split/Dhuli): 1 cup (150 gms)

- We shall first prepare a paste of the whole moong dal. Wash it well and soak it for 30 minutes. Once done, grind it into a coarse paste. Set it aside.
- In a pan, heat some ghee on low heat. Add the dal paste and fry gently till it turns golden brown.
- Now slowly add milk while mixing continuously to avoid lumps. Ensure that the flame is low.
- Once the milk dries up completely, and your halwa starts leaving the sides of the pan, add Nestlé MILKMAID while mixing continuously.
- Garnish with your choice of dry fruits and serve hot.

- Now add some ghee and cook for a further 10 minutes.
- Turn off the flame and serve it hot and garnished.
Some tips must be kept in mind while trying out the moong dal halwa recipe. Make sure you use only full-fat milk since it gives a rich taste to the halwa. You can also use khoya if you wish to cook halwa for special events. However, do not add milk in that case. Lastly, make sure you keep stirring well so that there are no uncooked or unflavoured lumps in your halwa to spoil the taste.
